The joke being that he's really more like the employee, only no one at work knows it.
We work in hospitality. He's the evening manager, I'm the graveyard shift front desk clerk. We see each other as time permits, which is actually most of the time. At work or at home, we seem to be perpetually joined at the hip these days. So to speak.
I probably shouldn't critisize him as much as I do. It's a habit I'm really bad at breaking. Speaking of bad habits, we drink and smoke a bit of weed. (welcome to the North of Canada). My husband also smokes cigarettes, although not as much as it may sometimes seem. I still maintain drunks follow him around picking up his old smokes cause he is perpetually lighting them, taking two drags off of the thing and then grinding it up on something, or throwing it away. I sympathize with this habit immensely. You should see me buzzed & strung out on coffee sometime.
I'm currently in a position to begin writing something. I have approximately 3 hours per night at work at which I am forced to sit in one spot and do absolutely nothing, complete with unlimited coffee and comfortable chairs.
I conclude that I am meant to be a writer right now. And to draw the things that I see.
RMR:
Praise the world to the angel: leave the unsayable aside...
... show him what is ordinary,
what has been
shaped from generation to generation,
shaped by hand and eye.
Tell him of things. He will stand still in astonishment,
the way you stood by the ropemaker in Rome
or beside the potter on the Nile.
